Tell us about your organization, Messe Muenchen India and its journey of 10 years in India.

Messe Muenchen started in India in the year 2007 with one trade fair on electronics industry. Today we are proud to have a portfolio of about ten trade fairs catering to a variety of industries. As trade fair organizers, we play an important role of market facilitators as we bring communities together at one platform for business, learning and networking. 2017 is a very special year for our company as we complete our 10 years in India.

Our focus has always been ‘customer centricity’ and ‘business matchmaking’. This two ethos have helped our business grow over a decade. Today, Messe Muenchen India successfully gathers business communities through its trade fairs such as IFAT India, electronica India, productronica India, LASER World of PHOTONICS INDIA, Intersolar India, analytica Anacon India, India Lab Expo, drink technology India, Indian Ceramics and BAUMA CONEXPO INDIA.

Being one of the leading organizer in India, how do you see the environmental sector being affected after the fiscal budget?

The government has unintentionally used fiscal policy to limit India’s consumption of hydrocarbons and, thereby, imparted an environmental dimension to it. Separately, government last year increased the cess levied on coal production and imports. The government has taken several new initiatives over the last two years to make substantial impact on our environment.

Minister of State of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar spoke about these initiatives in one of the press conferences where he highlighted initiatives such as increase in forest cover, better pollution monitoring and control, 2000 approvals unlocking Rs. 10 lakh crore of investment and a job potential of 10 lakhs, reducing project approval period from 600 to 190 days through standardization, decentralization, transparent processes and policy decisions.

There are many new initiatives taken which are likely to impact the environmental sector very positively. We at IFAT India are very positive about these initiatives and hope for betterment of the society.

According to you, what support from government is required for the sector to grow? What will be the key growth drivers in the coming years?

India has made a substantial effort in attempting to address environmental challenges. It has enacted stringent environmental legislation and has created institutions to monitor and enforce legislation. The National Environmental Policy (NEP) recognizes the value of harnessing market forces and incentives as part of the regulatory toolkit, and India is one of only three countries worldwide which has established a Green Tribunal to exclusively handle environmental litigation. On environmental governance, the GOI is contemplating the establishment of the National Appraisal and Monitoring Authority (NEAMA) to carry out environmental appraisals.

During the current 11th Five Year Plan, the Government issued regulations to promote an integrated and inclusive approach to coastal zone planning and the sound management of hazardous wastes, issued a number of critical. In response to the threat of climate change, the Prime Minister’s National Council on Climate Change issued India’s first comprehensive National Action Plan in June 2008. There are several key initiatives which are likely to drive positive environmental impact in the coming years.

The market is becoming competitive day-by-day. What changes have you made in your business model to compete in the present market context?

At Messe Muenchen India, our focus is ‘Customer Centricity’ – which means focusing on the needs of our customers. We tailor our trade fairs as per the market requirements and are constantly working towards building communities. By the means of our trade fairs, each year we are bringing more than three lakh professionals from across sectors together. India is a growing economy and the face of our business is rapidly evolving.

The business environment is dynamic and requires us to be flexible in our approach too. As trade fair organizers, there is no ‘One size, fits all’ approach that we follow. We customize our products to ensure that our customers are meeting their short and long term business objectives. Every day, we evolve how we approach our customers, we improvise our trade events, we add value and we thrive to offer a better visitor experience by incorporating technology and recent trends to our business. Trade fairs are marketing tools, and we understand that marketing is never static, it needs to be flexible and dynamic, to be able to meet the evolving needs of the market, and our customers.

What can our readers expect to see at IFAT India 2017? What are the new features of the trade show and its benefits for the community?

IFAT India is a unique trade fair – bringing elements of business, research and science together at one place. As India’s leading environmental trade fair for water, sewage, refuse and recycling – IFAT India is an ideal platform for successful networking with representatives from the industries and municipal sectors.

IFAT India is more than just a regular trade fair, it’s a complete environmental event. Visitors can expect to see new technologies, indulge in free-to-attend knowledge programs and take advantage of our networking events. Some of the attractions of the show are its high-class supporting program, panel discussions, university challenges and live demonstrations in a realistic working situation held by national and international experts from the industries, environmental associations and municipal sectors. TERI will be organizing a high level two day “Environmental Technologies conference “at IFAT India for the first time with eminent speakers from private and government speaking at the forum. In the past edition, a special focus on Waste to Energy showcased innovations and solutions for challenges in the Indian market which was specially focused on the topic of biogas.

The upcoming edition of IFAT India will take place in Mumbai from September 26 – 28, 2017 at Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC). The last event covered more than 6100 SQM of exhibition space, 143 exhibitors from 15 countries displayed the latest products, technologies and solutions and attracted more than 5,185 trade visitors.
